Expansion, Expansion, Expansion!

The Brewery has embarked on an ambitious expansion project. We are moving into the glass fronted building next door, to increase brewing capacity by 80%, and build a new bar and visitors’ centre. The new building will bring even closer together the brewing and retail sides of the business, further to showcase real ale. A new fermentation room will be installed in full public view and a new brewery tap, over two floors, built around it. There will also be the long-planned specialist beer shop. The existing Beer Hall will remain as a function room.

The new 11,000 litre dual purpose vessels arrived from Moeschle in Germany on June 15^th. And were expertly manoeuvred into place in the window byNick, Jamie and Markfrom TEP Machinery Movements in Leeds.

The new bar to be built around the tanks should be up and running in August. It probably wont be ready for the summer beer festival, but it wont be far off, so there’ll be plenty to see, at the Beer Festival, which will be the biggest yet -- two bars, the big marquee again, more bands in it, and great beer – as usual SIBA gold medallists, but also our choice of some of the new wave breweries making..well...waves.

Cask Ale Week 2010

29th March to 5th April 2010 is National Cask Ale Week.

Help us celebrate Britain’s National Drink during this year’s National Cask Ale Week.

From March 29th – 5th April the nation’s pubs will raise a glass to real ale to toast everything brilliant about beer.

Cask ale out performs almost every other drink on the bar :

*On trade figures show cask ale has a better year on year volume performance than standard lager, premium lager, even wine and spirits.

Growth in number of people drinking cask ale :

*Doubling in the number of female drinkers year on year.

*400,000 new cask ale drinkers in last 12 months - now 8.5 million drinkers

*31% of beer drinkers are now cask ale drinkers.

Cask ale - Britains National Drink :

*Record membership of CAMRA - now over 100,000

*Record attendance at beer festivals - 64,000 at the Great British Beer Festival in August 2009

*Increased positive media attention - two major TV series focusing largely on cask ale in 2008/2009

*More new brewery openings - now more UK breweries than at any time since the 1940's

Here Come The Girls!

On Tuesday 9th March we welcomed two new Brewsters to help for the day. Julie and Angela from The Thomas Burke in Leigh came to help brew Gyle 664 of Hawkshead Bitter. They really rolled their sleeves up and got stuck in, with Matt delegating all the worst jobs to them!

Grand Reopening Of Alexanders

Following the £100,000 refurbishment, Alexanders The Pub at Castle Green Hotel, Kendal, reopened for business on Thursday 25th February. They have had a new menu, furniture and paint job!

Alexanders the Pub serves some of the finest pub food in the Lake District, with something to tempt all palates - a combination of hearty traditional pub fayre, locally sourced steakboard and contemporary twists on your favourite dishes.

Beer and Food Tasting Evening

The Tillotsons Arms at Chipping will be hosting a Hawkshead Brewery Beer and Food matching evening, especially Brodies Prime and More? Artisan Bakery's multi award winning Muddee,on the 8th of March at 7pm. All are welcome and there will be brewers and other members of staff on hand to answer any questions.
