    New Beer: Fortunate Tarns

Fortunate Tarns is an uber-hoppy, easy drinking American wheat beer. With massive late hop additions of Galaxy, Citra and Amarillo, it will be bursting with tropical hop aromas of pineapple, mango and tangerine. The beer will be naturally cloudy due to the high presence of wheat malt, it was brewed with a mixture of torrified and malted wheat making up 40% percent of the total grist!

Brewed with Andy and Luke from Modern Times Beer Co, this collaboration saw us brew our take of their Fortunate Islands Beer.

We are launching Fortunate Tarns exclusively at The Beer Hall on 13th October in Cask and Keg, giving you the opportunity to taste both versions side by side!

  • We won a record five gold, two silver and two bronze awards at the brewers’ society North West beer awards on Wednesday.

These included awards for overall champion of both bottled beers and cask beers – the first time in England both awards have been won by the same brewery.

Windermere Pale won gold in its category and was judged overall champion cask beer. Brodie’s Prime Export won gold in its category and overall champion bottled beer.

Lager won gold in the bottled Premium lagers & Pilsners.

NZPA & Tiramisu both won silver in their categories.

Sundown and Chuckleberry Sour took bronze in their categories.

Head Brewer Matt Clarke, said “I’m massively proud of what we achieve as a team, and gaining awards like these only add to our drive to push forward and keep brewing better and better beer”.

Overall 250 bottled beers and 200 cask beers from North West breweries were judged in the competition run by SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) the main brewing industry trade body representatives.

Buster Grant, chairman of Society of Independent Brewers, said “in all SIBA’s history only one other brewery has ever taken both overall awards”.

The gold award winning beers will progress through to the national awards which will take place in March 2018.

    Hops: Mosaic & Hallertau Blanc
Malts: Low colour Maris Otter, carapils and malted oats

  • The 2017 International Rainbow Project – an Anglo- American craft brewing collaboration – is launched at the end of this week, in London, Cheltenham, Leeds and at The Beer Hall in Staveley, where the rare, limited edition beers will be on sale for the first time.

The Rainbow Project, now in its fifth year, challenges 7 of the UK’s most innovative craft breweries to brew a beer inspired by one of the 7 colours of the rainbow and to do it in collaboration with 7 American breweries. Partners and colours are drawn out of a hat.

This year we drew the colour green for the fourth time and were paired with Modern Times Beer, from San Diego, California. Together we’ve created “Mojito,” a beer inspired by that classic cocktail.

Mojito is a refreshingly tart, kettle-soured IPA, dry hopped with aromatic new world hops – Cascade and Motueka, then further aged, post fermentation, on fresh mint, lime zest and oak rum cubes from Appleton rum estate. Aromas of lemon and lime, enhancing the flavours of mint and fresh lime zest, blend with very subtle oak rum notes. This tart IPA will have you rushing for the nearest beach lounger or hammock.

On Friday 8th September, at the launch party at The Beer Hall all 7 Rainbow Project beers will be served, on draught and mixed cases of bottles will be on sale.

These limited edition beers are rare and in high demand.

    This year's pairings are:
Red | Magic Rock & Casita | Amanecer Mexicano 5.8% - Lime, Hibiscus and Chilli Gose
Orange | Partizan Brewing & New Belgium Brewing | West Fork 5.0% - Saison with spruce tips and experimental hop 522
Yellow | Beavertown Brewery & Jester King | Rex Apiary 4.7% - Bière De Miel with Honey, Rosemary & Texas Dried Lemons
Green | Hawkshead Brewery & Modern Times Beer | Mojito 6.0% - Kettle Soured Tart IPA
Blue | Siren Craft Brew & Sante Adairius Rustic Ales | Santo del Frio 5.2% - Dry Hopped American Lager
