Hawkshead Brewery’s Bitter – the best in Cumbria, says CAMRA
The best cask bitter in Cumbria is Hawkshead Bitter, according to CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale.)
And the gold medal for “Best Bitter” also went to Hawkshead for its Lakeland Gold.
The Staveley-based Hawkshead Brewery won the 2 gold medals in the two biggest selling beer categories, at the Cumbria CAMRA 2009 awards, held last weekend at
The Middle Ruddings Hotel, Braithwaite.
Bitter and Lakeland Gold are Hawkshead’s best selling cask beers.
“So popular are they,” said Hawkshead’s Alex Brodie, “ that we are now brewing at full capacity and this winter will expand the brewery, again, beyond its current capacity of 5,000 barrels (800,000 litres) a year.”
“There is a lot of good beer being brewed in Cumbria. The competition is strong, and the public are appreciating local beer like never before.”
“CAMRA can be proud of itself. It’s 40 year battle looks to be won.”
