  • We had two beers in the final of the Campaign for Real Ale's Champion Beer of Britain competition, at London's Olympia last night and both won medals.

NZPA (New Zealand Pale Ale) took silver and Hawkshead Bitter bronze, in their categories.

"With more than 1500 breweries in the country now, the odds of getting to the final are long, to get a medal is the icing on the cake , to get two medals is a triumph for our brilliant brewing team, who are at the top of their game" said owner Alex Brodie, “what I’m most happy about is the consistent high level they achieve”.

We've had beers in the final every year for the past 6 years “it’s one thing to brew a cracking beer once, the trick is to do it all the time” said Alex.

To reach the finals, beers go through several rounds over the course of a year; they’re judged at local tasting panels and regional heats before the final judging at the Great British Beer Festival.

Bitter 3.7% is the beer that built the brewery, first brewed in 2002. NZPA 6%, created by Head Brewer Matt, is a highly hopped pale ale brewed with four New Zealand hop varieties.

  • Taking collaborations to a new level - Session IPA - the result of our unprecedented brew day at Northern Craft.

In celebration of our 10th summer beer festival, Northern Craft, Head Brewer Matt and 12 other craft brewers joined together to create one mass collab brew on Friday 22nd July.

Given the breweries involved (Hawkshead, Runaway, Magic Rock, Fyne Ales, Cloudwater, Quantum, Thornbridge, Buxton, Marble, Roosters, Siren, Ashover & Pivovar) it’s not surprising to hear that this beer has been described as “a fruit-bomb of a beer”.

Coming in at 4.7% Session IPA was brewed with a blend of malts and is loaded with big fruity American hops; Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe and Centennial.

Being a one-off, casks & kegs are very limited, but have been distributed all over the north west and to further afield. You'll of course find Session IPA on the bar at The Beer Hall - while stocks last.
