    Cumbria Floods

We were lucky, this time. Hawkshead Brewery escaped the 2015 floods. Others were not so lucky. To help them we have donated an amount for every cask we expect to sell in the run up to Christmas, to the Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund 2015, run by the Cumbria Community Foundation. They need the money now. We urge our customers also to donate what they can.

The brewery escaped but the village did not. Staveley is now cut in half. The flood wrecked the bridge and so the southern road in from the by-pass is closed. But the other road in is fine. You can get to us easily, just by turning off the by-pass at the north end of the village. Staveley is open for business. The brewery is open for business.

    Beer Line-up for Christmas

The latest beers we’ve released in bottle include three versions of Oat Wine (our collab with Wild Beer Co) this year’s whiskey aged beer and our Christmas ale Jingle Fells. They join Sundown, another limited edition beer, in our line-up for Christmas.

Oat Wine, brewed in the summer of 2014, is a take on the classic British beer style Barley Wine (but brewed predominantly with oats, not barley). Each version has been ageing patiently in our cellars for 12 months before bottling. All three beers share a characteristic deep golden colour and full bodied rich fruit flavour, but each cask has imparted distinct flavours, check out the'Collaboration Brews' section on the Beers page for more info.

Following last year’s No3 and No4 in our annual project of oak aged beers is No5 – Brodie’s Prime Export aged in Red Burgundy casks 8.5%. A strong, dark beer matured for 9 months, “perfect for evenings by a roaring fire” says Head Brewer, Matt Clarke.

Previously only a cask product and bottled for the first time last year, our Christmas beer, Jingle Fells, is available once again. Dark ruby red in colour with plenty of malt and a hint of Christmas spice, Jingle Fells is a warming winter ale at an easy drinking strength of 4.5%.

If you’re looking to treat yourself or put a smile on someone else’s face this Christmas we’ve got a ready-made beery selection box that contains 6 different beers, a key ring bottle opener, a stemmed glass and a t-shirt, plus we’ve thrown in some beer mats and pin badges. The perfect gift for Hawkshead beer lovers out there. Order from our Beer Shop.
