    Cumbria Tourism Awards

    We’re delighted that The Beer Hall was nominated as a finalist for Tourism Pub of the Year. The category is for pubs which make a significant contribution to the tourism industry and provide an outstanding unique experience for its customers as well as offering a wide range of beers and quality, locally produced food.

    Our congratulations go to all the worthy winners.

    It was great to see so many customers of the brewery in the list of finalists;
    Castle Green Hotel, The Leathes Head Hotel, Merewood Country House Hotel, The Sun Inn (Kirkby Lonsdale), Augill Castle, Askhall Hall, Zeffirellis and Fellinis, Ullswater Steamers, The Forest Side, George and Dragon (Clifton), Cranstons Cumbrian Food Hall, The Daffodil Hotel & Spa, FSC Blencathra Centre and The Wheatsheaf (Brigsteer).

  • The much anticipated return of Key Lime Tau will be collectively launched at specially selected pubs, bars and bottle shops across the UK in keg and bottle on International Tau Day 6.28 (28th June).

    The beer, originally a collaboration brew with Crooked Stave (USA), is our take on a key lime pie. It was brewed on both sides of the Atlantic, hence two ‘pies’ and is 6.28% in strength. Mathematically Pi (3.14) multiplied by two, equals Tau (6.28). τ = 2π

    Key Lime Tau is a kettle-soured, lactose infused Golden Ale brewed with fresh lime zest and lemon grass to taste biscuity and strongly of lime… just like a key lime pie.

    Drink Key Lime Tau on International Tau Day at the following venues:

    The Beer Hall at Hawkshead Brewery (Staveley), Brighton Beer Dispensary, Trafalgar Wines (Brighton), Cotteridge Wines (Birmingham), The Craven Arms (Birmingham), Salt Horse (Edinburgh), Hanging Bat (Edinburgh), Big Six (Halifax), North Bar (Harrogate), Harrogate Tap, The Grove (Huddersfield), Tapped Leeds, North Bar (Leeds), Little Leeds Beer House, in London at; Mother Kelly's, Earl of Essex, Storm Bird, The Beer Shop, Hop Burns & Black, Caps & Taps, Clapton Craft, Inkspot, London Beer House. We Bought Beer (Balham), Fresh Fields Market (Croydon), Real Ale (Twickenham), in Manchester at; Café Beermoth, Port Street Beer House, Beermoth, The Smithfield Tavern. Free Trade Inn (Newcastle), Curios Hop (Otley), Sheffield Tap, Otters Tears* (Stoke), Bitter Virtue (Southampton), Fuggles Beer Café (Tunbridge Wells) and Pavement Vaults, York Tap and Pivni in York.

    Second wave of venues (announced 16/06/16):

    CASC (Aberdeen), Bottle Shop (Cheadle Hulme), Beer Stop (Dronfield), Tweedie’s Bar (Grasmere), Kirkland News (Kendal), Tap House (Lancaster), Raynville Superstore (Leeds), The 23 Club (Liverpool), Cap and Collar (Saltaire), Hop Hideout (Sheffield), Tap and Bottles (Southport), Heaton Hops (Stockport).

    Also get it online in the Beer Shop and via Ales By Mail.

    *Otters Tears - due to unforeseen circumstances the shop won't be open on Tau Day. Instead Key Lime Tau will be available from 12 noon on Thursday 30th June for anyone who missed out.

    Solar Sour in Bottle

    Friday 3rd June sees the first ever release of Solar Sour in bottle, exclusively at The Beer Hall.

    A very pale, low alcohol, highly refreshing, cloudy wheat beer with restrained lemony tartness. “A superb beer for a hot summer’s day” says Head Brewer Matt.

    It’s our take on the classic German Berliner Weisse, kettle-soured and bottled unfiltered. We called it Solar Sour because we first brewed it on the day of a solar eclipse - 20th March 2015”.

    Solar Sour 3.3% ABV will be available to enjoy on draught keg and in 330ml bottles which can be bought to either drink in or take away from The Beer Hall from opening at noon on Friday.
